All flies, leaders and tippet will be provided throughout the day.

Expert instruction and some great conversation.

The day rate is $1250nz for one angler and $1295 for two anglers.

Multi-day trips and Campouts

A great way to really sample what NZ has to offer. A road trip moving bases over several days to maximize weather and river conditions is a good way to provide the best fishing experience possible. Staying in a range of accommodations such as Air B&B's, motels, hotels, quaint rural pubs, Department of Conservation huts and riverside camping in tents.

Anton knows a lot of spots right around the South Island and can certainly help the more serious fishers achieve their desires. These trips are P.O.A and often need extra communication to plan to help make the experience meet the client's expectations.

Heli Fishing

Heli fishing takes us to some remarkable places that are out of the way. For the visiting angler it is often difficult to reach these places in the short time available on their NZ trip.

The payment will be made directly to the Heli company, and it will be P.O.A.

Cancellations

Bookings are secured with a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total guiding fee. As you can imagine cancellations have a huge impact on a small business like this. Any cancellations that occur within 30 days of the booked dates, the full guiding rate will need to be paid for in full. As a precaution we advise you to get travel insurance to cover any unforeseen disruptions.  If the guide cancels the day due to conditions (very rare) the deposit can be transferred to another mutually agreeable date.

Fitness and Fishing Ability

New Zealand is a very challenging place to fish. In order to be consistently successful here you need to be physically able to spend a full 8 hours being active in often uneven terrain in all weather conditions. Being able to cover ground is required with our style of fishing. Please be honest about your physical fitness when we ask prior to confirming your booking with us. There is nothing more disappointing than having chosen the perfect river when the river level and weather is playing ball to find out your client simply cannot walk the riverbed to search for fish. If fitness is an issue, then there are certainly other gentler options that can be explored.

Despite all the photos you see on social media, NZ is a difficult location to fish. Challenging but rewarding! There is a certain amount of fly fishing ability that will be required to be successful. It is highly recommended that prior to your trip you spend some time in the very least practicing your casting. Even 10 minutes two or three times a week can pay huge dividends. A willingness to listen to the instruction of your guide will certainly help also. no matter how good the guide the fish do not magically attach themselves to the end of your line. Catching fish is certainly not guaranteed. River and weather conditions change frequently and the biggest variable of them all are the fish themselves. Please know that your guide will be trying their hardest, but some things need to come together at the right time to get the results. Having said that catching fish is certainly expected and possible almost every day of the season.

Gear Hire

Fly rods and reels can be hired at a rate of $50 per booking. Wading boots and gravel guars for wet wading can also be hired at $50 per booking. In NZ we wet wade as water temps are mild and we spend very little time in the water.

Fishing License

To fishing in NZ for freshwater sports fish such as Trout, you will need to hold a fishing license. These can be purchased prior to your trip from here Fish and Game

FAQ's

Q. Do you supply all fishing equipment?

A. Yes, we have rods, waders and boots you can hire so you do not need to travel with your own.

Q. How does a guided fishing day work?

A. Your guided will pick you up from your accommodation and drive you to your river. the guide will choose your days river based on your experience, wishes, fitness and weather/river conditions. The guide will assist you in spotting, stalking and catching the fish throughout the day. The guide will provide the secret flies and tippet along with your lunch. In total you will spend roughly 7 - 8 hours on the river depending on drive times. at the end of the day, you will be returned to your accommodation.

Q. Can I do a day's helicopter fishing and how does that work?

A. Yes! You will be either taken to an airport where the chopper is or be driven to a convenient location to be picked up by the helicopter. The helicopter will drop us in the riverbed and leave us for the day. It will pick us up at a predetermined time later in the day. The weather can interrupt plans, so it is usually confirmed the evening before the fishing day with the pilot. The payment is directly paid to the helicopter company.

Q. Will I catch a fish?

A. Most probably. The real answer is its fishing! at the end of the day, the fish decides if it's going to be caught. The most important thing is to listen to your guide! The guide has been through what you are going through 1000's of times before and will have the right advice and flies and approaches for most scenarios.

Q. Does it matter if I have not done any fly fishing before?

A. No! Anton is a fantastic teacher and is very patient. if you are willing to be humble and learn, then you never know - you may just catch the biggest trout of your life.
